New blog in the making.

In regards to accumulating problems with blogger,(such as now only sporadicly being able to upload pictures) I've given up; my patience has been stretched to a nausiating extent and run out. The process of creating and moving have already been established, but my main problem are right now time.
I'll let you know when the next blog will be up and running. -Hopefully within a couple of days.

Notes

Electricity and Transduction:
Physical computing with Tom Igoe :: sensors by physical action.

Emitter Detector > registrating the physical shape /sensing and change in

Voltage >the electric energy
Resistance >how much room you have to come across
Current >flow

the range of possible values in analog resistors is in theory unlimited, but if a person cant recive a difference then there aren't really any..

Giving meaningful response ::
Getting response in a matter that mimics the reaction of animals or other familiar interactive objects can enable the understanding and trust of an action.

Interaction of transactions

How should transactions be designed to take advantage of the change in interface?

CONSIDERATIONS FROM BRIEF:
1. The speed of transaction with the ability to simply touch a payment terminal with a mobile phone.
2. The ability to enter a pin number on one’s own device instead of using a terminal. With the ability to change the security level to suit individual requirements this should allow payment interactions to work more efficiently and to be more secure.
3. The ability to process more customers.

What kinds of interfaces would be ideal for transactions and how might they be implemented on the mobile phone? How might we add valuable new interactions, services or information into the transaction process that makes it more useful than simple payments? Might there be other significant downsides as we expose our phone for every transaction? What about keeping a phone concealed for safety or the perceived risk of disclosing personal data by touching un-trusted objects?

In collaboration with Alice Andreoli, I’ve studyed these emerging interactions, and looked upon how they can be implemented or designed around daily infrastructures, as we both want to look into how to design specific services with ideal use of “payment objects”

We want to look closer into relations between control/knowledge, visibility and trust.
We think the success of NFC depends on the usability of mobile payments and ticketing and wether or not the design of this experience is good /plesant /trustworthy.
What will provide the new payment history? How will we trust future systems? How might we as users act upon new opportunities in interactions of transactions?

I feel we need to find out more regarding trust and technological innovation and adoption. I want to look more into the intersections of technology, spaces and access / payment-culture.

ohm, sweet ohm! (project-survival-guidelines)

Designing interaction in the physical world (TUI)

1. focus on experience prototypes (design delays/milliseconds/etc. or design around it.)
2. the wow-effect! evidencing the parts that will be the the front-end/users touch-points. (making them understand!)

Tools: processing and adurino. (Details and constraints, hacking and shortcuts.)
Sketching in hardware.

Svipptur

Above: Kids-tickets to place on jacket/key-chain/etc. to enhance easy access.

This is some of the visual profile for the ticketing system for Ruter AS, (which is nearby all of the short-distance transport services umbrella-organisation here in Oslo.) We've called the sub-service/ticket-system "svipp" as in "svipp-tur" (Norwegian for a short, quick drop-of, in relation to transporting people.) We're basically working with a RFID travel-card you can top up as you need, designing the interaction of both normal-users and ticket-controllers.

Simple refill-rfid "flexi-card" topping up by mobile-phone: sms your code, followed by wanted amount of  value to 2008, and you're ready to go!

counting souvenirs

Little Poika from japanese Bandai is a little flame who wants to be a ballet-dancer.
This lamp/toy enters her candle-light stage as it gets dark (dancing around!) and goes to hide if you blow at her or it gets light enough again. (Poika is also supposed to play a tune if you tap the edge of the candle but mine does not seem to want to..)

http://rainbowspice.jp/poika/ for the whole story.

flourishing wall

Throwing red balls at a blank white wall was all off a sudden a fantastic suprising and beautiful experience as it looked like the ball hitting the wall made projected flowers erupt and grow in a very neat animated manner.
(the solution for this perfect timing was not touch-sensored but a cam. that detected the red ball as it was in the air, and positioned "seeds"/ plants to be projected at that spot milliseconds after.)

hurrah! (robo 07)

Ok, so these don't actually do much in comparison to industrial assembly robots, (also featured at the fair) but these toys and their stories are some of many which contribute to the way we envision "human robots" as we tend to design for known visions of the future. (More often than not it seems like we design from consciously or sub-consciously adopted ideas of the future, rather than create our own of alternative nows.. -just a stray thought.)

Hexbug

One of many weird things from Tokyo: A robotic cockroach that responds to sounds and obstacles in its way. (it came with me back to Oslo and is now running around in my apartment. Luckily it does not reproduce quickly.)

Lost in translation. (and pretty much everything else.)

Tokyo is sort of chaotic for someone not speaking japanese, despite all the lovely technology enabling new possibilities within interaction between humans (and nearly everything else).
That being said. Tokyo is the best city (or cities) in the world!
As I have very limited time left until I return to Norway the 9. of november, the hunt for experience and new knowledge is increasing quite intencely. -Peeking today as I hit the robo-2007 exhibition, and the Roppongi Crossing 2007. (the latest being the most impressive and hart-pumping, geeky contemporary art-exhibition I've ever been to.)

I've been peeping into some of my classmates blogs, to try and catch up in a sickening short amount of time,(thanks Knut!)  and find that the only way to justify skipping school like I have these last days is the eye-opener this trip to Tokyo has been.
(Tiny hint: Anything is possible.)

Pre Tokyo :: QR

Everyone seems to have these QR's (of Quick Response) on their websites..
Sort of bar-code system for accessing by mobile-phones.
You're supposed to take a picture of it (scan it) with your phone and you'll access the data stored in the tag or go to the link if it  stores URL-addresses.
The system was initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing but are now all over in every visual media. The codes are also known as hardlinks and physical world hyperlinks and you can generate your own prints by visiting free QR-generating sites.

Pre Tokyo :: Tokyo Art Beat >findings

Ill. by Thiago Batista, one of the people preforming at Cut and Paste, a battling-event between illustrators/visual artists/etc.  for 15 minutes of fame. (forget all about DJ's and VJ's. THIS is it.. and the happening is of course sponored by Adobe.)

Pre Tokyo :: Tokyo Art Beat

Sort of underskogish, but open to everyone. TAB provides a great overview of events happening in the city -within subcultures from art and design to museum-exhibitions etc.

day 4 of 8 sec. film

As day 3 went into the bin due to the camera being "100 years old" according to the guy at sony-center/Oslo. (the result being all colours looked harsh and yellow and the image very "1992-home-video") Day 4 has been executed trying to benefit form the characteristics/restrictions given by the old lump/camera, and discovering how redicolous intuitive and easy imovie is..

(New challenge that worries me right now is how to go from 16 sec. to 8 without losing the essential feel of the clip.)

day 2 of producing 8 sec. for nrk.

Sickest thing I ever saw.    Why, oh why..
Look at how sleek and shiny and small it is.  Almost invisible! Very discreet.
It is also super-fancy, with as many as overseemingly possible buttons, but still amazingly few functions. And the users-manual seems to be missing. Doh.
Luckily, I'm having less problems with what it's gonna help me produce.

Knut Sverre,+ Karl Petter Knutsen :: Viritual Garden

"People dont like ads but they crave for information ."
The user create the story as hey go.. Alternative ending in movies
A love-story on swedish television. The girls point of view, and the boys point of view in channel 1* and 2*

Tools
Classic storytelling: Get people to believe in the story and get the feeling of beeing there.

Parallel storyteling (Infinite drive)
Multipath, the utopia of interactive story; you can always go everywhere and bee anyone.
(Feel the fredom but yet directed)
Multimodal:
Topographic: travelling-sites etc.
Algorythmic: self/user-generating storys.

Baard Enoksen :: notes, storytellling-intro

1. Branding: storytelling as designing the impression of a service. Ex Telebutiken "klar til jobb".
2. Learnig: SILDA saami game, 2005 ; about old saami culture and history for children in norwegian elementary-school. (though never completed.)
3. Interactive "påske-krim" solving the mystery of a murder in a flash-game.

Film has become the dominant media for storytelling. (also in news) What is the emotional effect? The camera is shaking=action. Games are judged by how it looks "real".

Perception :: Character :: Story

Shotgun storytelling (from Shindlers list) telling several things in different ways, and from MI 1 : manipulating the story where we pick up on small forecasting the story.

THE MONKY IN THE BRAIN. the subconsious and our understanding of the situation.
(we do the same thing with appearences ex. sandals and long hair. and people behave diffrently according to their perception.)

Lumumum-Takete the soft vs. the hard in the drama.
ex: sadness will stand out where all the other people are happy.
