Gunnar Garfors / NRK -New Media / Lecture

New Media in NRK :television & radio & internet & mobile-tv.
New use of current media, new use of current products.
Should have started in 1995 but got out rather late, and have therefore come into the shadow of  VG, Dagbladet when it comes to web. -but is amongst the top 3 what wap concernes..

THE HYPE:
User experiences; youtube vs. BBC 2005 til now youtube have exploded and gone far beond
People are watching less tv, but still get the same information and vidioclips (internet+wap.)
Usergenerated content / usergatherd.. "What do you want? ASK!"
"The snowmobile-effect" one enters a snow-mob. picture and suddenly you have five more.
Hilsen Norge=uneddited clips. + the local elections in Norway 2007. Codename Hunter= the social experience. Svisj: vote on music-videos by sms.  (Rubemannen with Harald Eia: videoblog on mobile phones/facebook/e-bay etc.)

Voting
Competitions
Partisipation
Marked research
Downloads, i.e. cupons, branded, ringtones, games, screensavers etc.

Henrich Steimler, flash-animated talkshow, youtube advertising.

"Easy, pretty easy". = how to get the content..
Distributing on more platforms; getting the same content from new distributors.
Branding on different platforms; creating a more whole experience; Rubemannen/Henrich allso on facebook, second life and myspace. Problematicly segmented: nonscaleable communities. ot thinking about the whole.

Material behaviour/ physical & computational simulations.

Due to my background in industrial design I´m currently combining my pursuit of a master in interaction design with a course in computational analysis and simulations by Steinar Killi at AHO.

Definitions:
1. "Simulation is the process of representing the dynamic behaviour of one system by the behaviour of an other system. " The Encyclopedia of Computer Science.
2. "Simulation is an analysis and planing tool that captures real world system variability and system-event interactions through time." www.simulationdynamics.com

Variations of simulations vary by the type of question to be answered. (Ex product/arcitecture: Renderings provide information of surfaces exposed to light == amount of shadow from the structure/self-shadow/light let through/possible heat-expansion/-contraction etc. )
(Physical simulation could be just measuring how much a pice of al. can take before it deforms)

The focus of this course will mostly be directed at material technology; computer aided manufacturing, element analyses, and end in a rapid prototyping project.

notes from Underskog/lecture with Even

Underskog (/the undergrowth) is a web based usermoderated callender over events and likable stuff in general. Its infamous in Norway as one of the first social networking services and only opens by personal invite from someone who already use it. It was designed by Alex, Simen and Even for about 100-300 people and was supposed to be between friends and their friends friends, but has now grown above 10 000 users, still though between friends and their friends and so on.
Underskog is great for telling/getting to know where and when anything is at. -Is anyone I know going?/What does it cost?/Who recomend  the event and so on.

The fact that Underskog is built as the eternal "dugnad" with no advertising, no business model and no expectations seems to have engaged a sort of intimate scene where everyone behaves rather nice. It could also be that you´re in there with your full name and the name of whom invited you, and youre sort of responsible  if you make a mess..  You tend to trust the people in there, due to the social pressure, and there´s no need for a fascist dictator/moderator.

programming drawingtools

..and it works! though the white colour was an unexpected default.
(colour picker at the bottom, increase and decrease of brush size at the top.)
The biggest problem so far is that I enjoy drawing with it more than writing and editing it.

input > something something magic++ > fancy output.

Software as interactive, running performance.
"Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interaction." .."for learning, prototyping and production".
(www.processing.org) Basically; computer programming within the context of visual arts.
Output can be classified as strong or weak generative art. Strong: The system or process as an aesthetic object. Weak: Semi-automated creation using parametric rules.(infinite variations to mass customization; family of one-off products.)
Output 1.-8. are stills from tutorials done with Watz.
